Mods

Minecraft Mods

Minecraft mods are unique features that modify your copy of Minecraft. First, I'm going to share some of my knowledge of how mods work, and then I'll tell you how to install them (for Mac only).
Before you download and install any mods, I suggest you download and install Forge.
Forge is safe and commonly used to help download mods.
Warning: have caution when using mods
Of course, there's always some caution you need to have when doing these sorts of things. Mods have a chance of damaging your copy of Minecraft, mods simply add features to your Minecraft game, and may damage your Minecraft game.
Now, to the fun stuff.
HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL MODS
(P.S. Don't have Minecraft open until your mod is installed)
Find the mod you would like on a safe site! Avoid getting computer viruses.
Click the download button. This normally takes you to adfly. Wait for the button in the top right corner to say 'SKIP AD' and click that button.
Wait for your mod to download
Drag your file to your desktop
Click the desktop background and click 'Go' in the top bar.
Click 'Go to Folder'
Type ~/Library in the box
Click 'Go'
Double click the 'Application Support folder'
Double click the 'Minecraft' folder
Double click the 'mods' folder (there should be one, if not; create one by right clicking your desktop background and clicking 'New Folder'
Drag your file into that folder
Open Minecraft Launcher, go to the 'Profile' bar where you chose your profile
(I use the Forge profile, which helps run my mods)
Make sure you switch to that version your mod(s) are in with the Forge version selected.
Launch Minecraft
It should say however many mods you have installed on the title screen somewhere.
You can see which mods are installed by clicking the 'Mods' bar that is there (all of those options will be there if the mods are installed successfully, if not, something went wrong with the installation, etc.
I suggest using mods only for Singleplayer worlds, so only you can see them. Some servers may not support these mods, and other players who don't have the mod can't see the items in your mod, so then what's the point?
I personally like to use mods on maps I've downloaded from trusted sites on the internet. I love goofing around and exploring with maps and mods!
There are all sorts of fun mods out there!
Have fun!

Pictured above is one of my favorite mods. I believe this is one of the furniture mods.

How to download and install a custom Minecraft map (for Mac!)

Since I've had trouble with this same topic in the past, I've decided to give you steps on how to download and install a custom map to a Minecraft Singleplayer world
Sorry for the Windows users, I have a Mac so I can only do the instructions for one :(
1. Find the map you want
Type in Google the map you would like for a Singleplayer world, so you may appreciate and explore other's creations!
2. Click the download link
Surely somewhere on the page there is a download link
(WARNING! BEFORE YOU CLICK AND DOWNLOAD THE MAP MAKE SURE THE DOWNLOAD IS SAFE SO YOU DO NOT GET A COMPUTER VIRUS!)
Before you get a map, mod, skin, etc. or, in fact, any download for anything MAKE SURE IT IS SAFE!
Now, click the download link and it most likely will take you to adfly. Look at the top right-hand corner of the page and wait for it to count down until your download is ready. When it is ready click the button in the top right-hand corner saying 'skip ad'
3. Wait for it to download
4. Take it from your files, documents, or wherever it may be put.
5. Click the desktop which will show you're in Finder
6. Click 'Go' in the top bar of your screen
7. Click 'Go to Folder'
8. In the bar, type ~/Library
9. Click 'Go'
10. Click 'Application Support'
11. Click the 'minecraft' folder
12. Go to your 'saves' folder, which is where your minecraft worlds are kept
13. Take your download and drag it into a spot in the 'saves' folder
You're Done!
Now, all you have to do is to open up minecraft (if your map requires a specific version, change to that version of minecraft recommended for it by going to Edit Profile under the profile you want and choosing the version you'd like)
Please let me know if your map doesn't show up in your Singleplayer world choices, sometimes the map may be in the middle or toward the bottom of the list. Sometimes a map doesn't show up for me, but most of the time it should work.
Have fun exploring!

Mobs: Peaceful and Hostile

First, I'll start with the peaceful mobs.  These mobs are friendly.  Some flee for a few seconds after being attacked by a player.
  • Sheep this mob is very easy to find.  Sheep drop wool when you kill them, but to avoid killing sheep, you can use shears (crafted with three iron ingots).
  • Pigs this mob is also very commonly found.  When you kill a pig it may drop 0-3 pieces of raw pork chops.
  • Chickens when this animal falls off of a cliff, it can slowly flutter down with the help of its wings.  Chickens drop either a feather or raw chicken when you kill them.  They can also lay eggs in random places occasionally.
  • Cows when this mob is killed it drops raw beef or leather.
  • Mooshroom this mob is like a cow, except it is red with white spots, has mushrooms on its back and head, and its eyes are black.
  • Squid this mob just calmly swims around in water.
  • Villager a villager is found in a village with lots of others usually.  They can trade with you, and they can also open doors.  Tip: they really like emeralds!
  • Bat this mob is obviously found in caves.  They are speedy and zip around the underground in nothing flat!
  • Horse you can find some horses in a group while traveling your world.  To tame it, you can keep right-clicking it until hearts show up.  You then can use your saddle to control it.
  • Ocelot ocelots are found in the jungle and they are very fast.  They look very similar to cats.
  • Cat (domesticated ocelot) you can make ocelots a pet cat!  Just go fishing and feed them fish until they turn into a cat.
  • Rabbit this mob is new in the 1.8 update.  These may be tamed with carrots.  Just like ocelots, they are sensitive around players.  Unlike dogs or cats, they cannot be able to sit down.  Drops include rabbit hide and rabbit's foot.
Dog (domesticated wolf) to make a wolf your pet, feed it some bones from skeletons you have killed.  They will stay by your side and attack foes who may cross your path!

Hostile Mobs:
These mobs attack on sight
  • Blaze spawns in the nether.  Can fly and uses fire as a weapon.  Will throw fire at you until you die.  Blazes drop blaze rods.
  • Cave Spider smaller than a regular spider and re-textured to a dark blue.  Slightly more dangerous, can fit through 1x1 holes, and can climb walls.  Sometimes in combat they will poison you, turning your health bar green-yellow which will gradually wear down to half a heart.  You can stop the poison by drinking milk.  These only spawn in caves.
  • Creeper this mob is widely known in the minecraft world.  It looks tall and green with a frown-like face.  When you hear a sssss.... sound, quickly back away!  If you get too close to a creeper it will blow up, causing damage to your health and your land.  If you kill a creeper, it may drop gunpowder.
  • Ghast this spawns only in the nether.  It's appearance is a large white mob with a sad face/ tears coming down.  It will throw fireballs at you.  Don't forget that it has a large attack range and can hit you.
  • Magma Cube this mob is particularly interesting to me.  It spawns in the wither, and is known as a nether version of a slime.  Magma Cubes slowly jump in different directions until a player is in range.  They are unique because they do not drown in lava.  Water itself doesn't hurt one, but it can drown in water.  Magma cubes don't take fall damage, and whatever the size, it can jump 3 blocks tall!  When Magma Cubes jump they spread out into 8 layers.  They drop magma cream when killed, which is used in potions.
  • Silverfish this mob is found in strongholds either from monster spawners or from monster egg blocks.  Monster egg blocks noticeably mine a little slower than regular blocks.  Monster egg blocks are regular stone, cobblestone, and stone bricks.  They can be very aggravating because when you mine a monster egg block, it may awaken monster egg blocks nearby. This will create a terrifying storm.
  • Skeleton this is spawned very often and easy to find almost anywhere.  This mob uses a bow and arrow and can shoot from a distance.  Never try to attack it up close, as it can keep knocking you back with arrows until you die.  I suggest using its own weapon against it, and staying from a distance, making sure it does not see you.  When the time seems right, shoot a skeleton until it dies.  Mob drops can be bones, a bow and arrow (sometimes), and maybe armor if it wore any by picking it up.
  • Slime this is a rare hostile mob found in swamps or underground caves.  They will commonly spawn in the world type Superflat.  They have four different sizes, large, medium,  small, and tiny.  Tiny slimes are harmless to the player.  When killed, a big slime will split into two medium sizes, and then to multiple tiny slimes.  Only tiny slimes drop 0-2 slime balls, which can be crafted into sticky pistons.  They cannot swim (which means they can drown) or jump in water.
  • Spider these are hostile at night and neutral during the day.  Do not let them get on higher ground than you, because they will pounce on you, causing a lot of health loss.
  • Spider Jockey this is one of the rarest mobs in Minecraft.  The appearance comes as a skeleton riding on a spider's back.  This is deadly because skeletons can shoot arrows at a range and spiders can pounce at you.

Armor

There are five types of armor.
  1. Leather
  2. Gold
  3. Chain
  4. Iron
  5. Diamond
First to make armor, you obviously need to obtain the resources.  Leather armor is the recommended starting armor for a player in a new world.  Leather armor is obtained by using your sword to kill cows until you collect enough leather for the crafting recipes below. When you collect enough leather that the cows drop, you will soon be fully geared up with leather armor!  This gives you more protection from mobs, and you can get armor points.  Here are armor crafting recipes:  Where you see
the word "material" you will place the item you have and make it into armor.  These are materials you may make armor out of:

  • Leather (from cows)
  • Chain is obtained by discovery most of the time, perhaps by villager's chests or in mineshafts. If a mob is wearing armor, then after you kill them they'll drop it
  • Gold armor is made from gold ingots
  • Iron armor is made out of iron ingots
  • Diamond armor is the strongest of these and it's made out of diamond gems
To repair your damaged armor, you may put your damaged piece of armor or any tool, and put, in the second slot, the material you made the tool/armor piece out of.  This will cost enchant levels, so make sure you have enough!  You can also repair with a crafting table.  Anvils aren't just for repairing, you can also rename your Diamond Sword (or anything you have) to a different name!

Getting Started!

Welcome to the world of Minecraft!
Introduction:
New to Minecraft?  No problem!  Follow the info from this blog and you'll be a pro in no time!
So, you may or may not know some of the basics.  The following info will be about creative mode and survival mode.

Creative mode

Creative mode is a type of playing mode where you cannot die, you can fly, you have unlimited resources and more!  You can put your imagination to the test and make some really cool structures like the house on the right.

In single player mode, your world is unlimited and you can do anything you want!  If you want
to let your friends join, you can all connect to a server, which I will write about on this blog as well.

Survival Mode

Now, let's take the challenge of survival mode!  Survival mode is more challenging than creative, of course.  You have to get your own resources for all the things to make.  First, find some trees that you can chop down.  Then you can make planks out of the raw wood in your inventory.  With four planks of wood, you can make a crafting table which is the key to making all resources!  First, you may need to make a wooden axe to chop down more trees to get more resources and tools.  The crafting recipe for a wooden axe is shown on the left.  To make the sticks for the handle of your axe, place two wooden planks directly on top of each other in the crafting table.  Once you've gathered more wood, you can make more tools.  Pictured on the left are crafting recipes for other basic wooden tools you will need.  A wooden hoe, shovel, and pickaxe, in addition with the axe.  The hoe is used to plant crops.  You use this tool on grass, and plant in any seed, potatoes, carrots, etc.  After this you must wait until your crops are fully grown to harvest them to eat.
The shovel is used to break grass blocks faster than just using your hand.  Next, pickaxes are used to break stone, which when mined without a silk touch pickaxe, turns into cobble and you will pick it up in your
inventory.  When you do not have a pickaxe and you're using your fist, it takes a long time to break the stone block, and you don't get the block.  This is why pickaxes are important.  But that is just one of many reasons.
Lastly, we have the wooden sword.  When the night falls and the monsters come to play, this is a must.  This sword protects you from dying or being harmed by various mobs who spawn in the overworld.  You'll feel much more safe if you don't have shelter, but you have a sword!  But, you will soon have to build yourself a shelter to be safe, cook, and store your items!  Armor, the next section, is also needed in combat.
