Since I've had trouble with this same topic in the past, I've decided to give you steps on how to download and install a custom map to a Minecraft Singleplayer world
Sorry for the Windows users, I have a Mac so I can only do the instructions for one :(
1. Find the map you want
Type in Google the map you would like for a Singleplayer world, so you may appreciate and explore other's creations!
2. Click the download link
Surely somewhere on the page there is a download link
(WARNING! BEFORE YOU CLICK AND DOWNLOAD THE MAP MAKE SURE THE DOWNLOAD IS SAFE SO YOU DO NOT GET A COMPUTER VIRUS!)
Before you get a map, mod, skin, etc. or, in fact, any download for anything MAKE SURE IT IS SAFE!
Now, click the download link and it most likely will take you to adfly. Look at the top right-hand corner of the page and wait for it to count down until your download is ready. When it is ready click the button in the top right-hand corner saying 'skip ad'
3. Wait for it to download
4. Take it from your files, documents, or wherever it may be put.
5. Click the desktop which will show you're in Finder
6. Click 'Go' in the top bar of your screen
7. Click 'Go to Folder'
8. In the bar, type ~/Library
9. Click 'Go'
10. Click 'Application Support'
11. Click the 'minecraft' folder
12. Go to your 'saves' folder, which is where your minecraft worlds are kept
13. Take your download and drag it into a spot in the 'saves' folder
You're Done!
Now, all you have to do is to open up minecraft (if your map requires a specific version, change to that version of minecraft recommended for it by going to Edit Profile under the profile you want and choosing the version you'd like)
Please let me know if your map doesn't show up in your Singleplayer world choices, sometimes the map may be in the middle or toward the bottom of the list. Sometimes a map doesn't show up for me, but most of the time it should work.
Have fun exploring!
